■ What is a 2D code?
- Stack type
The stack type is composed of several barcodes stacked vertically in a rectangle. - Matrix type
The matrix type is composed of small squares or dots called “modules” arranged in a square grid. They have a square frame, an L-shaped frame or position detection patterns that allow reliable position detection.
■ How are 2D codes read?
In order to read the information contained in a 2D barcode such as the Data Matrix Code, a camera system is required. This is the only way to recognise and record the structure of the code. The Data Matrix Code is illuminated by a light source, the reflecting light is detected and evaluated. A wide variety of devices are used for this purpose, depending on the user’s requirements.
