Lozenges

Preparations – Lozenges

Among the oral preparations, lozenges are a popular and often non-prescription form of administration. The advantage of this form of administration is that the active ingredients are administered slowly, which means that the local effect is particularly evenly distributed. In addition, the intake is preferred over other forms, especially for children and senior citizens, as the taste of the active ingredient can be masked.

Object-specific challenges

Product features

Most lozenges are sugar-based and are pressed, resulting in a very hard test item. However, splintering or chipping may occur due to the crystalline structure. The colour is also inhomogeneous within the individual units. Since the products also come in a wide variety of colours, including very dark colours, a high degree of colour separation is necessary.

Recommended system for the inspection of lozenges

Product features

For the inspection of presence, integrity, shape etc. of lozenges in the blister scanware recommends SPECTRA High Resolution, the inspection system with highest resolution thanks to the use of 3CMOS cameras. By using 3CMOS cameras, it offers outstanding colour separation performance, enabling the inspection of products with difficult colour and contrast conditions.

Highlights of the high-resolution product inspection system

  • All parameters can be applied simultaneously
  • The illumination is homogeneous, reproducible and adjustable in 16 brightness levels – for pastilles, transmitted and reflected light are used to detect even small defects in the preparation. Both illumination units can be controlled separately via 2 individual channels.
  • Up to 1200 images per minute in 16 million colour tones can be evaluated.
